ANANT SINGH
1901 – January 25, 1979

Commander of the April 18, 1930 Chittagong Uprising – comrade-in-arms with Ganesh Ghosh

A fearsome revolutionary and a famed marksman

Leads the take-over of the Police Lines on April 18, 1930

Gets accidentally separated from the main group after Chittagong take-over

Arrested on September 2, 1930 from Chandannagore near Kolkata

Leads an effort to escape the jail by digging tunnel, but fails

Sent to the Andaman Cellular Jail for life in September 1931

Released just before Indian Independence

Remains active in Indian left politics, and is arrested by the Indian Government

Dies from ill-health after several years in the jail

Anant Singh is played by a gifted actor from FTII, Pune – Jaideep Ahlawat (Gangs of Wasseypur, Khatta Meetha, Aakrosh …)
